| MY GARDEN CALENDAR | ||||||||||||||
| December 2008 photos | Everyone has an old pillow case, everyone can get their hands on an old rubbish bin with a lid, if you cant find a bin then I suggest you go and buy one because liquid fertilizers are so wonderful in your garden you will wonder how you did without them before now. Ensure whatever you make your liquid fertilizer in that it has a lid, you don't want smells or insects multiplying in the liquid, and you definitely want some old pillowslips, which you will fold down the top, and run some cord through, just like a sack with tie, the string or cord will stick out from under the lid so you have something to grab onto and the most important need for the pillowcase is because trust me on this one-this brew will be so smelly you wont want to handle more than you need by sifting the liquid from the solids, and the smell will linger on your hands for ages. remember what old flower water smells like in a vase????? well its worse..much worse, however your plants will love you for it it, (: So you have your bin, you have your pillowcase with a string tie, just like you used to have in the old days and now we are off on a journey that will make a huge difference to your organic garden. now remember this liquid fertilizer is also excellent for that flower garden, and shrubs...ok lets begin. | |||||||||||||

| Ingredients: | ||||||||||||||
| Urine (urea), dont turn your nose up I can just imagine you now, saying what the! but don't I repeat urine collected and watered down in a watering can is the most wonderful food for your plants, now it is also good to put some urine in your liquid fertilizer bin now and again, don't go overboard but at least once a week collect a litre or so and add it to the bin | ||||||||||||||
| Green tip growth from hedges, or trees, now remember that this has to be tip new growth, the plants have taken up the minerals from the ground and zoomed right to the new tips of the plants, so get out with that hedge clipper and start trimming, remember, only new soft tip growth | ||||||||||||||
| Lawn clippings: when you mow that lawn collect some and add it to your pillow case, fresh lawn clippings are very high in nitrogen, and what does a plant need more than anything ...nitrogen | ||||||||||||||
| Animal manures: don't worry if they are very fresh in they go, add sheep pellets, collect some horse manure, cow poo, sheep dung, fowl manure, pidgeon poo, anything from an animal that is not a meat eater | ||||||||||||||
| Seaweed: head down to the beach and pick up a plastic shopping bag of seaweed, you will not regret this move, packed full of minerals its a must for your liquid manure. | ||||||||||||||
| Lime: Now don't forget to add a tablespoon of lime to sweeten the brew. | ||||||||||||||
| Weeds: now the weeds have robbed precious nutrients from your soil, so its payback time shove some in your pillow slip and rob them back, the seeds will stay in your pillowcase so don't fear on that score. | ||||||||||||||
| Comfrey Plant: comfrey roots go way down into the soil and the leaves are nutrient rich, particularly of Nitrogen, so if you have the chance, purchase and plant some comfrey, comfrey is also wonderful in your 8 week composter system you are going to start making or in your compost heap | ||||||||||||||
| THE RECIPE: | ||||||||||||||
| Take whatever ingredients you have on hand from the above list and put them chopped up into your pillow case, the smaller chopped the bits the better, put the pillow case in the bottom of your bin, with the cord hanging over the side, fill with water and replace the lid, you might need to cut a tiny bit out of the lid with a sharp knife for the cord or string, so that the lid is flush on the bin. For the next 2 weeks, every couple of days or so, take the lid off and lift the pillow case until it is drained and put back, you will after 2 weeks be able to pour the liquid into your watering can and then fill the can with water, I put about 1 litre of liquid manure to a 5 litre water can 5/1 ratio, water straight onto foliage and soil..and wow after a couple of weeks you watch those plants grow.... Now you can put this on your garden fortnightly, fill the bin up with water and let the same pillowcase sit for another 2 weeks, after a month chuck the contents into your compost ...this liquid fertilizer is brilliant for starting your compost system as well.....use this liquid manure on your vegetable gardens, flower gardens, or put full strength on the ground under your trees and then water in. happy gardening...photos to follow...!! | ||||||||||||||
