Toilets/ |
Opunake
is situated on the beautifully scenic Surf Highway
45, which runs from Hawera to New Plymouth. The highway passes
through other South Taranaki coastal settlements of Manaia,
Otakeho, Pihama, Rahotu, Pungarehu, and Warea.
It
could be argued that
Opunake is the best beach in Taranaki and within easy traveling distance of New Plymouth and Hawera.
It is a popular
tourist spot and swells in summer with numbers occupying the very
popular camping ground. |

- Wonderful
Murals throughout the town celebrate Opunake's history and the
important links with the sea. Of particular note are the two
murals (seen above) on the side of the Post office and Taranaki
farmers buildings and the one in the image on the right
depicting the Surf Lifesavers, the murals certainly lend
vibrancy and colour to the main street.
