As you are winding your way by car towards New Plymouth, coming from the North you will stumble upon a sight that is simply breathtaking - You will be looking across the Tasman sea and view Mount Egmont/Taranaki. Here you will find the 'Whitecliffs Walkway' including the 'humble Heritage' little village of Tongaporutu, built along and hugging the river mouth shoreline.....Stop- take in the breathtaking view of our mighty Mountain from here, walk through the archways and sea caves at the mouth of the river, and shoreline, go and look at the Cliff face carvings which have stood the test of time, Tongaporutu/whitecliffs is a magical place with views that will delight the most experienced photographer. Accommodation is available at the Tongaporutu White cliffs Station, Just follow the signage. A great Holiday zone for any family.
